White House has no Ceremony for National Day of Prayer

Thursday May 7, 2009 will be the first day in eight years that that the White House will not have a ceremony for the National Day of Prayer. Instead the White House will only give a public proclamatin to acknowledge the special day noting that "Pesident Barack Obama will pray privately as he does every day" rather than an open ceremony.

Western world hit by 'recession’ in Christianity, says Kirk council

The Church of Scotland’s World Mission Council is suggesting that the Western world needs to be converted amid a “recession” in Christianity.

The Council says in its report to this year’s General Assembly that the faith is flourishing in many African countries while Christianity in Europe is suffering from a slump that is “unprecedented in its extent and severity”.

Nations with Worst Religious Tolerance

An annual list of countries that names the worst violators of religious freedom expanded to include two new countries – Iraq and Nigeria – announced a U.S. government body on Friday.  Burma, North Korea, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, China, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Presbyterians Defeat Move to Allow Gay Clergy, But...

The Presbyterian Church (USA) has defeated a move -- for the third time in 12 years -- that would have allowed partnered gay and lesbian clergy, but gay rights groups cheered what they called a "historic shift" in the number of Presbyterians who supported the measure.
